What Are Long-Tailed Weasels?
Long-tailed Weasels, also known as Possum Weasels, are North Dakota wildlife. These little weasels are found in the Rocky Mountains region of North Dakota. Males usually live in caves but sometimes will wander around in the open when they are ready to mate.
They are found mostly in the forests and hills of this region. They often climb trees to find some food and can live in areas with a lot of moisture. They can be found under stones, logs, and in the topmost branches of trees. They like to hide and ambush their prey so they have a keen sense of smell.
These little rodents like to hide in big pieces of wood, dirt, and pebbles so they have been known to become victims of vandalism. These creatures are also likely to get in with hunters and trappers. They may just escape the traps set for them or escape by swimming through shallow water.
The fish that are a part of their diet include trout, pike, salmon, and suckers. The usual prey is lizards and rodents.
Sometimes they will take more than one prey and their movements tend to go uneventful. So hunters can watch their movements and track them. There have been reports of the predator becoming a human meal.
Long-tailed Weasels are easy to identify when you spot them. Their long tails, brown fur, and white face make it easy to spot them from a long distance. So if you want to see these creatures, plan a trip to North Dakota, and look for this elusive animal.
